British Museum, Events Manager, Adult Programmes

Join the Learning and National Partnerships team in this dynamic role, which is responsible for the delivery of a diverse and inclusive programme of discussions, performances, debates, and other special events. The postholder will play an essential role in the artistic planning of high-profile events which aim to widen participation from under-represented groups.

Key areas of responsibility:

  • To project manage the artistic planning and organisation of a range high-profile events online on Zoom and/or in person.  Leading on research, development and delivery in consultation with the Head of Learning and Inclusion.

  • To research content and potential contributors to events, working in collaboration with key stakeholders including external contributors, partner organisations and colleagues across the Museum.

  • To develop, manage and deliver a programme of special events and performances that respond to strategic priorities and widen audience participation from under-represented groups who may face barriers to participation

  • To liaise with freelance staff including visiting lecturers and programme contributors over content, arrangements for delivery of events and payment

The postholder would have a level 3 qualification or above in the relevant arts/culture subject and ideally hold a degree or prior experience with high profile event management in the sector. A PRINCE 2 would be desirable.

Working with a variety of stakeholders, the postholder would have strong written and verbal English communication skills, and ideally have had prior experience supervising freelance staff. With competing deadlines and requirements, the postholder would have excellent organisational skills, be flexible, work with tact and diplomacy and be equipped with experience of project management.
